To have faith in Jesus means to believe he is who the Bible says he is: the Lord, the Son of God, the Messiah, the Savior of the world. He walked among us, but he was no ordinary man.
Here is more of what the Bible has to say about him:
[John 1:1-14] In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life, and the life was the light of men. … And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.
[Hebrews 1:1-4] Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world. He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power. After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high, having become as much superior to angels as the name he has inherited is more excellent than theirs.
[Colossians 1:15-20] He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible—all things were created through him and for him. And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together. And he is the head of the body, the church. He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in everything he might be preeminent. For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his cross.
[Colossians 2:9] In him the whole fullness of deity dwells bodily. He is the head of all rule and authority.
Jesus is the only mediator between God and mankind.
[1 Timothy 2:4-6] God desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all.
Jesus Christ is Lord above all.
[Philippians 2:9-11] God highly exalted him and gave him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow, and every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
[1 Corinthians 8:6] There is one God, the Father, from whom are all things and for whom we exist, and one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom are all things and through whom we exist.
Bow your knee before Jesus and confess him as your Lord now, or else you will do it later when you stand before him as your judge. Jesus said:
[John 5:21-29] As the Father raises the dead and gives them life, so also the Son gives life to whom he will. The Father judges no one, but has given all judgment to the Son, that all may honor the Son, just as they honor the Father. Whoever does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent him. Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life. Truly, truly, I say to you, an hour is coming, and is now here, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God, and those who hear will live. For as the Father has life in himself, so he has granted the Son also to have life in himself. And he has given him authority to execute judgment, because he is the Son of Man. Do not marvel at this, for an hour is coming when all who are in the tombs will hear his voice and come out, those who have done good to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil to the resurrection of judgment.
Do you honor the Son as you honor the Father?
Here is more of what the Bible has to say about Jesus:
[Acts 10:34-43] God shows no partiality, but in every nation anyone who fears him and does what is right is acceptable to him. As for the word that he sent to Israel, preaching good news of peace through Jesus Christ (he is Lord of all), you yourselves know what happened throughout all Judea, beginning from Galilee after the baptism that John proclaimed: how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power. He went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with him. And we are witnesses of all that he did both in the country of the Jews and in Jerusalem. They put him to death by hanging him on a tree, but God raised him on the third day and made him to appear, not to all the people but to us who had been chosen by God as witnesses, who ate and drank with him after he rose from the dead. And he commanded us to preach to the people and to testify that he is the one appointed by God to be judge of the living and the dead. To him all the prophets bear witness that everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness of sins through his name.
Do you fear God and do what is right? Do you believe that Jesus is Lord of all? Do you obey him? Please understand that if you believe in Jesus, you have to obey him, because he is Lord. Many people are religious and believe in Jesus, but they don’t obey him. To such people, he has this to say:
[Luke 6:46] Why do you call me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do what I tell you?
[Matthew 7:21-23] Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.’
Do you do the will of the Father in heaven? If you don’t, you will not enter heaven, even if you claim to believe in Jesus.
Faith is more than mental assent to a set of facts. Faith is more than believing the right doctrines. True faith includes trust, faithfulness and obedience. Faith is shown through what we do. Faith without works is dead!
[James 2:14-26] What good is it if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him? If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, be warmed and filled,” without giving them the things needed for the body, what good is that? So also aith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead. … You believe that God is one; you do well. Even the demons believe—and shudder! Do you want to be shown, you foolish person, that faith apart from works is useless? … As the body apart from the spirit is dead, so also faith apart from works is dead.
True faith obeys out of love. If we don’t obey Jesus, that means we don’t love him. Jesus said:
[John 14:15] If you love me, you will keep my commandments.
All those who believe in Jesus must keep his commandments and follow his example.
[1 John 2:3-6] By this we know that we have come to know him, if we keep his commandments. Whoever says ‘I know him’ but does not keep his commandments is a liar, and the truth is not in him … Whoever says he abides in him ought to walk in the same way in which he walked.
Do you walk as Jesus walked?
Jesus came to destroy the works of the devil and set us free from sin, not only from the penalty of sin as some believe. Those who continue in willful sin are still slaves of sin and of the devil, regardless of what they believe.
[1 John 3:3-10] Everyone who has this hope in him purifies himself just as he is pure. Everyone who commits sin practices lawlessness; and sin is lawlessness. You know that he was revealed so that he might take away sins, and there is no sin in him. Everyone who remains in him does not sin; everyone who sins has not seen him or known him. Little children, let no one deceive you. The one who does what is right is righteous, just as he is righteous. The one who commits sin is of the devil, for the devil has sinned from the beginning. The Son of God was revealed for this purpose: to destroy the devil’s works. Everyone who has been born of God does not sin, because his seed remains in him; he is not able to sin, because he has been born of God. This is how God’s children and the devil’s children become obvious. Whoever does not do what is right is not of God, especially the one who does not love his brother or sister.
