Many Christians have been led to believe that with the completion of the New Testament, God no longer speaks to His children directly. This thinking is so deeply embedded in their mind that they totally reject prophecy and prophets as something for today.

However, this viewpoint is fundamentally flawed and lacks biblical support. Nowhere in the Bible is such a claim explicitly made. Notably, the often-quoted verse from Revelation 22:18 refers specifically to the Book of Revelation, not to the entirety of the Bible. The Bible is not a singular book, but rather a collection of various scrolls. Books as we know them today didn’t exist when the Bible was written.

[Revelation 22:18] I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: if anyone adds to them, God will add to him the plagues described in this book.

God continues to speak and reveal things to His children even today. Importantly, these revelations will never conflict with the Bible, though they might challenge our personal interpretations of the Bible. While it’s reasonable to approach new revelations with a healthy skepticism, dismissing them outright because “now we have the Bible” is not aligned with biblical principles. Regrettably, this mindset is all too common.

Have you considered that with this kind of thinking we would never have had the New Testament? You embrace the idea of progressive revelation, yet also believe it somehow ceased with the New Testament. Don’t you see how inconsistent this view is?

Have you considered that this was the very mindset of the scribes and Pharisees? It’s the same mistake they made. When Jesus came, He brought new revelations and explained the kingdom of God in ways that differed greatly from their understanding, but because they were entrenched in their own views, they rejected what He had to say. Because He didn’t fit their understanding of the Messiah, they rejected Him and thus sealed their fate in eternity.

What’s happening today is not much different. Many Christians make exactly the same mistake. God is sending His messengers to them to correct their understanding and warn them about what’s coming, but they reject them because “now we have the Bible,” Bible that they interpret based on their own flawed understanding.

Many Christians wonder why the Jews keep rejecting Jesus as the Messiah, but they have exactly the same mindset as them! They make the same mistake as them. If Jesus walked on the earth today, bringing new revelations about the kingdom of God, just like He did two thousand years ago, they would reject Him as unbiblical! Nothing changed. It’s the same play, just with different actors.

You may want to meditate on this question: Who are the modern-day scribes and Pharisees?
