Did you know that the New Testament enumerates nine explicit list of sins? In this article, we present these lists and show that those who live in these sins are on the broad road to destruction, regardless of what they believe. If you claim to be a Christian but live in any of these sins, you must repent, that is, turn away from them.
The lists of sins
Here are the nine lists of sins, without any comments:
[Matthew 15:19-20] For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false witness, slander. These are what defile a person.
[Mark 7:21-23] For from within, out of the heart of man, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, coveting, wickedness, deceit, sensuality, envy, slander, pride, foolishness. All these evil things come from within, and they defile a person.
[Romans 1:29-32] They were filled with all manner of unrighteousness, evil, covetousness, malice. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, maliciousness. They are gossips, slanderers, haters of God, insolent, haughty, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents, foolish, faithless, heartless, ruthless. Though they know God’s righteous decree that those who practice such things deserve to die, they not only do them but give approval to those who practice them.
[1 Corinthians 6:9-10] Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.
[Galatians 5:19-21] Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.
[Ephesians 5:5-6] You may be sure of this, that everyone who is sexually immoral or impure, or who is covetous (that is, an idolater), has no inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God. Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience.
[Colossians 3:5-8] Put to death therefore what is earthly in you: sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry. On account of these the wrath of God is coming. In these you too once walked, when you were living in them. But now you must put them all away: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and obscene talk from your mouth.
[1 Timothy 1:9-10] The law is not laid down for the just but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and sinners, for the unholy and profane, for those who strike their fathers and mothers, for murderers, the sexually immoral, men who practice homosexuality, enslavers, liars, perjurers, and whatever else is contrary to sound doctrine.
[Revelation 21:8] As for the cowardly, the faithless, the detestable, as for murderers, the sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars, their portion will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, which is the second death.
The fate of sinners
The Bible is extremely clear that those who live in these sins are not saved. Absolutely no exception is made for those who believe in Jesus. On the contrary, if you believe in Jesus and do these things, you will receive a harsher condamnation than an unbeliever, because you have sinned against greater light. The unbeliever can at least claim ignorance.
Unfortunatelly, Many Christians have been deceived into believing that somehow these verses do not apply to them. But that’s a very serious error. God is a fair judge and has the same standard for all.
Here is what the Bible says about those who commit these sins:
- List 1 (Matt 15:19-20): They are defiled.
- List 2 (Mark 7:21-23): They are defiled.
- List 3 (Rom 1:29-32): They deserve to die.
- List 4 (1 Cor 6:9-10): They won’t inherit the kingdom of God.
- List 5 (Gal 5:19-21): They won’t inherit the kingdom of God.
- List 6 (Eph 5:5-6): They have no inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God. The wrath of God is on them.
- List 7 (Col 3:5-8): The wrath of God is on them.
- List 9 (Rev 21:8): They will end up in the lake of fire.
Those who are defiled won’t enter the kingdom of God:
[Revelation 21:27] Nothing defiled will ever enter it, nor anyone who does what is detestable or false, but only those who are written in the Lamb’s book of life.
No one who reads the Bible without preconceived ideas would ever come to the conclusion that one can live in the above sins and still go to heaven. There is no such thing, my friend. Only those who have been indoctrinated with cheap-grace heresies believe this nonsense.
The Bible says clearly that those who are truly born again no longer live in willful sin.
[Romans 6:18] You who were once slaves of sin have become obedient from the heart to the standard of teaching to which you were committed, and, having been set free from sin, you have become slaves of righteousness.
[Colossians 3:7] In these sins you too once walked, when you were living in them.
[1 John 3:6] No one who abides in him keeps on sinning; no one who keeps on sinning has either seen him or known him.
[1 John 3:8-9] No one born of God practices sin, for God’s seed abides in him; and he cannot keep on sinning, because he has been born of God.
[1 John 5:18] Everyone who has been born of God does not keep on sinning.
If you live in any willful sin, let me tell you with all the authority of the Scripture that you are not born again, even if you believe in Jesus. Please read the above verses until this becomes clear to you.
Sexual sins
Note that sexual immorality features in eight out of the above nine lists of sins. Sexual sins are not the only sins, but they are a special class of sins and are very widespread in our day and age.
[1 Corinthians 6:8] Flee from sexual immorality. Every other sin a person commits is outside the body, but the sexually immoral person sins against his own body.
The Greek word rendered as “sexual immorality” is πορνεία (porneia) and covers a variety of sexual sins. Closely related are the sins of adultery, impurity and sensuality.
This means that the following categories of people are not saved, even if they profess to believe in Jesus:
- Those who are in adulterous relationships
- Those who sleep with their boyfriends or girlfriends
- Those who practice masturbation
- Those who are addicted to porn
- Those who entertain sexual phantasies in their mind
- Those who practice homosexuality
Do not be deceived. If you are in any of the above categories you are not saved, even if you believe in Jesus, and if you don’t repent, you won’t make it to heaven. And yes, your porn addiction and masturbation are taking you to hell, just as Jesus said:
[Matthew 5:28-30] But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart. If your right eye causes you to sin, tear it out and throw it away. For it is better that you lose one of your members than that your whole body be thrown into hell. And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. For it is better that you lose one of your members than that your whole body go into hell.
Please understand an important fact that I have emphasized before: The more light we have, the more accountable we are before God. If we profess belief in Jesus, yet continue to engage in the activities mentioned above, not only will we not be saved, but we will receive a greater condemnation than an unbeliever. At least the unbeliever can claim ignorance.
This article is not written from a spirit of judgement, but from a place of love and concern, because true love warns. There is a difference between warning and judgment. Rest assured, these warnings apply to me as well.
